Sophia Sun is the founder and current president of Phoenix Financial Inc. After migrating to Canada, she achieved a Masters Certification in Public Management from the Schulich School of Business at York University, as well as an EMBA from one of China’s most prominent universities - Tsinghua University. While she began her career as a university lecturer in China, her first foray into the financial industry began in Toronto in 2000 and Phoenix Financial Inc. was established in 2004. Phoenix Financial offers loan products that comprise of housing mortgage loans, commercial loans, business loans, constructions loans and land development loans.

Sophia is an active participant in a multitude of community events every year. Her philanthropic efforts include being a long-term supporter of the SickKids Foundation, the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, the Canadian Red Cross Society and Markham Stouffville Hospital.

In April 2018, Sophia proudly became a member of a non-professional mountaineering team to reach Mount Everest Base Camp. The climbing group comprised many business leaders, community elites and doctors and for their effort, they raised $750,000 for Markham Stouffville Hospital. The feat is, to date, life-changing personal triumph in Sophia’s life.

Sophia has also worked to promote and improve strong economic and cultural relations between China and Canada. In 2013 and 2015, Sophia organized a Mayor Trade Mission Delegation, which marked a ground-breaking new chapter in the economic sector as ten mayors from across Ontario visited China.

Sophia is the embodiment of the spirit of successful Canadian entrepreneurship. Over the course of more than a decade, she has received many awards, including the “Chinese – Canadian Economic and Trade Promotion Award”, the “Outstanding Chinese Professional Achievement Award” and the very coveted “Ten-Year Volunteer Award” issued by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. Most recently, she was recognized with the “Outstanding Woman Entrepreneur Award” at the 2019 Chinese Professional Women of Canada event for her 15-year contribution to the financial industry as well as her volunteer efforts within the community.

Despite this very full plate, Sophia is not slowing down. She continues to use her platform of influence to spread positivity and hopes; to be able to inspire more people and to help build a better tomorrow, today.
